Spring Engagement Photos at Park Point in Duluth
Some engagement sessions are memorable because of the location. Others are memorable because of the couple. Sydney and Joe’s session was both.
From the moment I met them, I knew they would become some of my favorite people. They are funny, easy-going, laid back, and the kind of people who make you feel comfortable within minutes of being around them. One of the things that stood out to me most was the way Joe looks at Sydney. You can tell he is completely devoted to her. He is gentle, kind, and caring, and the love he has for her is impossible to miss.
When we first started planning their engagement session, I knew it was going to be something special because they wanted to do something completely unique.
Neither of us are actually from Duluth. I was traveling from Bemidji, and they were traveling from Scandia, making Duluth the perfect meeting point. One of my favorite things about engagement sessions is helping couples create an experience rather than simply taking photos, and Sydney and Joe wanted to turn their session into a date day together.
The planning process wasn’t exactly smooth sailing, though.
We originally had their session scheduled for April, but a major snowstorm rolled through and covered everything in white. Since they were hoping for green scenery, we decided to reschedule. Then, when May arrived, their car broke down on the way to the session, forcing us to reschedule yet again. Looking back, I truly think God had a better plan. Because when June finally arrived, we were greeted with some of the most beautiful weather and scenery we could have asked for.
After researching locations around Duluth, we landed on two spots that fit their vision perfectly: Park Point and Skyline Social & Games. When I arrived at Park Point early to scout locations, I immediately noticed a few gorgeous blooming trees near the entrance. Naturally, that became our first stop. The blooms added the perfect touch of spring color and gave us a completely different look than what we would find later on the beach.

Lake Superior Portraits at Park Point
After photographing among the blooming trees, we made our way farther down Park Point toward the shoreline.
The combination of sandy beaches, grassy overlooks, and views of Lake Superior created the perfect backdrop for the second half of our outdoor portraits. The scenery was beautiful, but what made the session truly special was the energy Sydney and Joe brought with them. They were completely open to every idea I suggested and trusted the vision from start to finish. As a photographer, that level of trust is such a gift because it allows creativity to flow naturally.
The love they have for one another was obvious in every moment. The calmness. The laughter. The little smiles. The way they naturally gravitated toward each other without needing much direction at all.
Sessions like this remind me that the best photographs happen when couples focus less on the camera and more on simply enjoying each other’s company.
We spent time walking through the sand, exploring the shoreline, and taking in the beautiful June evening. By the end of our time at Park Point, I already knew this gallery was going to be one of my favorites.

Enagement Arcade Portraits at Skyline Social & Games
For their second location, we traded beaches and spring blooms for arcade games and bowling lanes. Sydney and Joe wanted a location that reflected their personalities and gave their session a unique twist, so we headed over to Skyline Social & Games in Duluth.
Honestly, I loved this idea. So many engagement sessions happen in parks, fields, or on beaches, but very few couples choose a location that feels like an actual date night. Skyline Social & Games allowed us to capture a different side of their relationship, one filled with friendly competition, laughter, and fun.
We explored the arcade, played around with different games, and even made our way over to the bowling alley. The uniqueness of their location choices, their willingness to trust the process, and the obvious love they have for one another made this engagement session one I will never forget.
Sydney and Joe, thank you for trusting me with your story. Between the beaches of Park Point and the arcade games at Skyline Social & Games, this was a session filled with laughter, creativity, and some truly beautiful memories. It remains one of my favorite engagement sessions to this day.
Sydney and Joe got married on October 4th, 2025. You can read more about their wedding day here.
